Rentals that you don't want!

Yesterday I got an e-mail asking me if I was interested in renting a castle out.  normally the answer is of course YES!  Where, when etc.  This one however was different!  I won't say who it was but here are some of the details:

  • The rental was for adults only
  • It was to run from 6pm to 2am
  • It was to be in a barn, where a graduation party was being held
  • Supervision was required
I could tell that these guys were having a bit of difficulty getting a co. to rent to them as the location was over 50 miles from where we normally do business.  I could just imagine the scene on the night, and declined politely citing a limitation on my insurance.

This brings to mind another hire that didn't go quite as smoothly as normal.  On this occasion,  I rented a castle in what seemed a very ordinary way to a family having a party.  As the party was going to run into the night, we agreed that I would collect the castle the following morning, not too early.  I arrived at half past 10 on the Sunday morning and knocked on the front door.  No answer.  I knocked again and waited.  Still nothing, so I took a peek through the letterbox, and called out 'Hello!'.  Silence.  becoming a little concerned, I had a look around the side of the house.  I could see through the kitchen window that there were a lot of beer cans and vodka bottles strewn about, so I looked over the fence and the scene in the garden was similar.  Clearly I wasn't going to raise anyone after a night like this, so I entered the garden and started to retrieve the deflated castle, hoping that it was undamaged.  Once I'd got most of it together I went into the shed to retrieve my circuit breaker and found one of the revellers, sound asleep on the floor!  I carefully picked may way around him, removed the circuit breaker and left as quietley as I could, making a mental note of theaddress for future reference.  All in a day's work for Stirling Castles.
